What Do Subscriptions Mean for You? How Do They Work?

  • A user with a valid license on their Zoner Account can work with the program on any number of computers. (A “user” here means a specific physical person.)
  • While your license is running, you have the right to free updates that bring new functions, and all repairs and improvements.
  • After your purchased license period ends, we offer you a one-month buffer period, during which you can still extend the program’s license without any interruption in its functionality.
  • After the buffer period ends, the program still lets you access and export your photos and do basic operations like viewing. Even when the license period is completely over, you will not lose access to your photos.
  • The basic license is for one person. You can purchase a family license that covers multiple persons.

What subscription length can be purchased?

We offer 1-year subscriptions. Pay for your one-year subscription at one time in full, or with monthly payments.

What happens to the program if I don’t renew my subscription?

If you don’t renew your subscription in time, then Zoner Photo Studio X will switch into a 30-day protection period. During the protection period, you can still work with the program normally. When it runs out, it will be possible to start up the program, browse photos in it, and export them to standard formats. A subscription renewed during the protection period will link in to the previous running subscription. The day and month of your subscription’s expiration will also be retained, as well as any running discounts you had.

Example: You purchase ZPS X on October 20th, 2016, and you don’t renew your subscription until October 30th, 2017. Its next expiration date comes on October 20th, 2018.

Do you guarantee continuous updates to the program?

Yes, we’ll be working on the program’s development nonstop. This is Zoner’s main product, and so we give it a lot of attention. Also, unlike our past licensing model, the subscription model enables us to publish new features multiple times per year, so that we can react more quickly to our users’ needs.

Can I buy an older version with a permanent license?

We currently only offer prepaid licenses for ZPS X. A ZPS X license includes free email technical support. Previous versions of Zoner Photo Studio are no longer available.

Can I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions can be canceled on any anniversary of their starting date. If you haven’t taken action to set up automatic renewal of your subscription, then it’s enough to simply not pay for the next period. You can give or withdraw assent to automatic renewal of your subscription in the settings for your Zoner Account, at https://www.zoner.com/account/.

How do I buy Zoner Photo Studio online?

To buy Zoner Photo Studio right away, click here.

  1. Select Buy a New ZPS X License from the product options. If you want to give ZPS X as a gift, select Give the gift of ZPS X.
  2. Log in to your Zoner account, or verify your account. If you don’t have a Zoner account, create one by entering your email.
  3. Complete the order form. Choose whether you want a Single-user or Family license. Then, choose whether you want to pay yearly or with monthly payments.
  4. You can add an optional product – our Complete Guide to Photo Editing in PDF-format.
  5. Choose a payment method: credit card, PayPal or Google Play. If using credit card or PayPal, you can save the payment method and agree to automatic license renewal.
  6. Enter your Billing Details.
  7. Review the Order Confirmation. Make any necessary changes. Once your order is complete, click Confirm Your Order.
  8. Proceed to the payment gateway. Your order confirmation or other necessary information is sent to your email. If you just created a new Zoner account with your order, an email with a link to confirm and activate your Zoner account is sent to the email you entered. You need this to activate Zoner Photo Studio X.

How can I pay for ZPS?

    If you pay by card, you can use ZPS X immediately. After completing your transaction, you receive an email with the information you need to activate your ZPS X license. Proof of payment is available within 24 hours of purchase in the Payments and Orders section located below Download in your Zoner Account. Can I use this program on two or more computers (like my desktop and my laptop)?

Yes. Licenses for Zoner Photo Studio X are per-user rather than per-computer. When you purchase a license, you gain a Zoner Account if you don’t have one yet, and your license is added to your account. Use your account to log in to ZPS X on any computer where it’s installed. In order for other people in your household to log in to the program (even on the same computer), you need to supplement your license with a family extension, thanks to which all the members of your household will be able to use ZPS X via their own accounts. This license can only be used for personal, non-commercial purposes.
Note.: The family license is for members of one household: people who permanently live together and cover living expenses together.

Can I renew using an activation code?

In certain special cases, ZPS X licenses are provided via an activation code. This code is normally used for starting a new subscription only. However, it’s possible that, alongside your subscription, you’ve purchased a retail box of ZPS X or acquired a code as a gift or prize. If you’d like to renew your license using an activation code, please write us, and we’ll help you renew. Don’t enter an activation code on a Zoner Account where you already have a subscription running. This would create a second, unrelated license starting from the date when you entered the code. That in turn would needlessly waste the rest of the license period for your original license.

If my license is ending in two months and I buy a renewal today, when will the renewal start?

No matter when you buy a renewal, it always ties in smoothly to the day when your current license year ends. So if for example your license ends on December 15th, the renewal will start on December 16th — even if you buy it in October.

What are Zoner Accounts used for?

Your Zoner account grants you access to all ZPS X services, including license management, family license user administration, and email preferences for Zonerama and Learn Photography. It also provides a history of orders and invoices associated with your email address. You can also enter the ZPS X license activation code or license number of an older version of ZPS, giving you access to the installer for the older version. Use your Zoner account to manage orders and licenses so you never lose them again.

A Zoner account login is required to activate and run ZPS X and ZPS 18.

Why do I have to log in to / sign up for a Zoner Account when buying ZPS?

Your Zoner account lets us know whether or not you qualify for upgrade discounts and makes it easier for you to activate Zoner Photo Studio later, since activation will require login to a Zoner Account. The other benefits of Zoner Accounts are described in the question “What are Zoner Accounts used for?”

I can’t log in to my Zoner Account.

If you don’t know the password for your account, use the Forgot your password? link during login.

A password-reset message will be sent to your e-mail inbox. Click the confirmation link in that message. This takes you to your Zoner Account webpage.

If you can’t remember the email for your account, then try the email addresses that you’ve used in recent years, one by one.

Where can I download Zoner Photo Studio? How do I correctly install it?

If you have an active ZPS X license, access the installer from your Zoner account by clicking Download Installer. If you don’t have a license yet, or have an activation code, visit this page and enter your email.

The installation wizard guides you through the setup process.

If you’re using a trial version of the program, there’s no need to download the installation file again. Just activate the trial version by logging into your Zoner account directly in the program.

I own an older version and need to reinstall it. Where can I download the installer?

You'll find the installers for any older ZPS versions you've purchased on your Zoner Account. For versions older than ZPS 18, you'll first need to enter your license code – follow this guide.

How do I activate the program?

You don’t need long license codes, and you don’t need activation codes. We just tie your license to your Zoner Account (https://www.zoner.com/account/), where you can find it at any time, along with a handy download link for the installer. The first time you run the program after installing it, you’ll need to log in to your Zoner Account. If you’ve purchased your license before installing the program, then this login immediately activates the full version.

How can I tell if my software has been activated?

From right inside the program. Click the question-mark icon towards the top right to show the Help menu, and then click About....
In the middle of the About window, under the Zoner Photo Studio logo, you see information on the version and build of the program. If you’re using the paid version, it also says PRO here. If you’re using the trial version, it says TRIAL.

I’m having trouble with my first run and activation of the program.

For the first run and activation of the program, you need an Internet connection, because activation—for both trial versions and purchased versions—takes place over your Zoner Account. Therefore, please check that your Internet connection is working and that the activation process is not being blocked by antivirus software or a firewall.
If you don’t know the password for your Zoner Account, then please use the forgotten-password link in the login window. If an error message occurs during login, please send a full-screen screenshot to us at support@zoner.com for analysis.

I’ve purchased a license with a family extension for the members of my household. How do I share the license with them?

In your Zoner Account click Manage ZPS Settings. You’ll then see a table with your license or licenses. On the line for the license in question, click Users. This takes you to a screen where you can provide e-mail addresses for the other members of your household. We’ll send them each an e-mail with a link for creating a Zoner Account (or logging in to their existing account). To pick up their license, they click the link in that e-mail.

My computer just died. Have I lost my paid software?

You have not. To very easily re-download any recent version, simply visit your Zoner Account. You’ll find a download link waiting for you there. Install the program and run it. A login window will appear. Log in to your Zoner Account from here. Your purchased software will then activate automatically.

If it does not, then there is no license attached to the account that you logged in to. You most likely purchased under a different account (a different email address) than the one you logged in to. We recommend searching your email inbox for messages from Zoner. Once you find the right account, start up your ZPS, click the email address shown at the top right, log out, and then log back in under your account that owns the license.

Do I need to be online while using ZPS?

Internet access is needed when activating the program and for certain actions that are online by nature, like accessing the online Zonerama galleries or ordering photo products (calendars and canvas prints). However, for day-to-day functions like managing and editing pictures, you do not need to be online. ZPS also occasionally needs to check the validity of your license, and so we do not recommend being offline for longer than one month. This also ensures that you won’t miss out on any important program updates that bring fixes and new functions.

Do you offer free technical support?

Yes. We give priority in our free technical support to the users of the current subscription version, ZPS X.
As time and capacity allow, we also provide technical support to other users. For very old versions, our ability to provide support can be limited due to e.g. the absence of program updates to support the latest cameras or operating systems.

Do you support RAW files? Will I be able to develop RAW files from even the latest cameras?

Zoner Photo Studio automatically supports a wide range of RAW files from DSLRs and medium-format cameras. If your camera is on our supported-cameras list, then you can develop your RAWs in ZPS immediately.

If it is not, then for full functionality please download the latest installer for the freeware named Adobe DNG Converter, and then run that installer.

Inside of ZPS, press Ctrl+M to show the Preferences window. Visit the RAW Format section and turn on the option named “Use Adobe DNG Converter to load RAW files.” If you’ve installed ADC to its usual location, then that’s all you need to do. Otherwise, click the folder icon on the right. A window appears. Use it to browse to the location of the Adobe DNG Converter .exe file, and then click Open. In either case, click Apply to apply the changes.

Is there a version for phones and tablets?

The PC version of Zoner Photo Studio will work on tablets with the PC version of Windows. Development of the Zoner Photo Studio – Edit & Go app for Android has been discontinued, and this app is no longer available.

Are you planning a Mac version?

We wish to fully concentrate on making our Windows software the very best. Because of this, we are not planning a version for the Macintosh operating system. However, you can run Zoner Photo Studio on Macintosh using Apple’s Boot Camp tool.

How can I check if my HEIF format photos are properly loaded and saved?

  1. Check if your computer meets ZPS X system requirements.
  2. You can check the functionality and support of HEIF formats directly in ZPS X by going to Settings (CTRL + M) - Preferences - Advanced.
    • If you see the message “HEVC codecs initialized successfully”, everything should work properly.
    • If you see the message “Cannot find HEVC codecs”, please install HEVC codecs for $0.99 from the Microsoft Store by clicking the button in ZPS X or directly from the Microsoft Store.
  3. If you have an older version of ZPS, update to the latest version or contact us at support@zoner.com

What is Zonerama for?

We offer the free Zonerama web gallery service for everyone who’d like to create web albums and share and present their photos. It’s directly integrated into Zoner Photo Studio. You can even use it without being inside of ZPS—via the web interface at www.zonerama.com.

A red or orange warning message with the text “Check your photos’ resolution” sometimes appears when I’m preparing my photo products. What does it mean?

A red warning informs you that your photo has extremely low resolution, and therefore we cannot guarantee satisfactory printing. An orange warning means that although it will be possible to print your photo product, here again the print quality will not be ideal. Try finding a copy of the same photo at higher resolution or using the uncropped original version of it. A cropped photo not have the same resolution as the original and thus may be lower-quality for large print jobs.
In both cases it often helps to choose a smaller format for the final photo product. For a photo book, instead of placing a photograph across the whole page, use it as a smaller photo to supplement other photos.
